Plan members can now build a will through Connected Care, with costs possibly reimbursable
Medavie Blue Cross has added an online estate-planning service to its member benefits, letting eligible plan members prepare a will, power of attorney and health care directive through the insurer's digital health platform.
The tool, called LegalWills, is now available to eligible members through Connected Care, Medavie's digital health services platform.
Members can appoint an executor, name who will inherit their assets, designate guardians for minor children, assign someone to manage their finances and record their health care preferences in advance.
The insurer said the platform uses province-specific templates developed and reviewed by legal professionals to reflect local legal requirements, and that members complete the documents online at their own pace with support and educational resources available throughout.
Silvia Chullen, manager of digital product solutions and partnerships at Medavie Blue Cross, said planning ahead is "one of the most important steps" people can take for their families.
The service, she added, gives members "a clear and accessible way" to set those plans up.
The package includes ten years of unlimited updates, Medavie said, allowing members to revise details such as guardians, executors and asset distribution as their circumstances change.
Members also gain access to a probate calculator, FAQs, live chat support and an education centre, per the announcement, while optional services such as document storage and asset records are available for an added fee.
Members receive preferred pricing on the Premium Package along with the ten years of free updates.
For plan sponsors, the reimbursement mechanics may matter most: depending on plan design, Medavie said, costs may be eligible for reimbursement through a Personal Wellness Account under the Personal Development category.
