CN Rail workers puh for better wages, benefits, and job security in ongoing negotiations
Unifor Local 100 and Council 4000 have started negotiations with CN Rail, representing over 3,600 rail workers across Canada.
These talks focus on improving wages, pensions, benefits, and protecting work ownership for rail employees.
“Our members at CN Rail go above and beyond to make sure the trains operate, and cargo moves across the country,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. She emphasized that Unifor is ready to fight for significant improvements for rail workers in this bargaining round.
Committees are working to ensure that CN Rail acknowledges the need for real increases in wages, benefits, and pensions, which have remained unchanged for over 20 years. The union is also focused on protecting jobs from the threat of automation and technological advancements.
One of the key priorities is to address long-standing issues with the pension plan, which has not seen enhancements for over two decades.
Unifor also aims to ensure job security in an era of technological change that may reduce the workforce. Another important goal is improving the overall quality of life for members, with a focus on achieving a better work-life balance.
The timing of these negotiations is significant, as CN Rail is currently reporting record profits. The union is determined to achieve meaningful gains that will benefit workers now and into the future. The current collective agreement is set to expire on December 31.
Unifor represents CN Rail members from Local 100 and Council 4000, who work in various roles at CN terminals and headquarters across the country.
These roles include rail car technicians, heavy-duty mechanics, diesel engine mechanics, crane operators, machinists, electricians, clerical and administrative staff, customer support, and fleet mechanics.
