Goodmans partner takes on new role in pension governance and regulatory affairs

CWIPP has appointed Brian Sweigman, partner at Goodmans LLP, to its Board of Trustees as an industry expert, according to the plan’s press release.
Sweigman’s practice at Goodmans focuses on pensions and benefits, employment, trusts, and estates. He advises plan sponsors and administrators on governance, administration, design, and regulatory issues.
According to his Goodmans profile, he also provides guidance on pension and benefit matters connected to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate reorganizations, and assists clients with employment transitions.
Before joining Goodmans, Sweigman worked as a legal consultant at a global pension advisory firm.
As per CWIPP, Sweigman is also active in pension education. He is a regular presenter for the Pension Plan Administration Certificate program at Humber College and an instructor for the Advanced Trust Management Standards certificate at the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.
In addition, he sits on the Defined Contribution Pension Plans Advisory Committee at the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario.
“We are delighted to welcome Brian to the Board of Trustees,” said Gary Goddard, CWIPP Board Facilitator and Chair.
He said Sweigman brings technical expertise in pensions and that his background aligns with CWIPP’s focus on retirement security for members and support for their families and communities.
