Access to personalised care remains limited as three in four Canadian women report disruptive symptoms

Three in four Canadian women experience disruptive menopausal symptoms, and one in four men face hormonal shifts such as low testosterone—yet access to care remains fragmented, with a one-size-fits-all approach still common across the system.
GreenShield has introduced a new Personalized Hormonal Health Program designed to help Canadians manage these changes through integrated, nurse-led care.
The program offers individualised support for conditions like perimenopause, menopause, and andropause, all within the broader GreenShield+ ecosystem, which combines healthcare services and benefits access.
The program includes a nurse intake and assessment, full hormone panel testing, a tailored care plan, virtual consultations with a hormonal health provider, direct messaging for continued support, and home delivery of required treatments.
Joe Blomeley, executive vice president of GreenShield Health, said hormonal health remains a national issue, not a marginal one.
He pointed out that nearly half of Canadian women feel unprepared for menopause, while awareness of male hormonal changes is still low.
He also stated that access to care should support individuals through all stages of life.
Designed to help members manage the effects of hormonal changes on areas such as mood, energy, sleep, and metabolism, the program aims to reduce health disruptions that can lead to lower engagement and time away from work.
The program connects into GreenShield’s broader health services infrastructure, giving members streamlined access to mental health services, pharmacy, telemedicine, well-being tools, and plan coverage.
For those uncertain where to begin, GreenShield+ provides a guided experience with life-stage-based support and personalised “Next Best Action” recommendations.
Nadim Kara, executive vice president of People and Culture, said hormonal changes can significantly impact a person’s physical, mental, and emotional health, often resulting in lower engagement and increased time off work.
He added that the integrated model is designed to improve accessibility and align care with individual needs.
The program has already been added to GreenShield’s internal Total Rewards Program.
Employees now have access to three consultations with a nurse practitioner under the new offering, which builds on existing benefits for gender affirmation, family building, and expanded plan options.
The Total Rewards Program also includes $10,000 in annual mental health coverage and up to $3,000 in donation matching.
